Sailing Living Lab

Routes

Since the beginning of the project we have sailed through various routes with different friends and followers of the project who collaborated with us.

We have also participated in several regattas and educational activities because our Project not only involves technological innovation, baut also supports sport and education.

Route to test the Acrobat

(Summer 2015 – 780 nm)

The Acrobat was purchased in June 2015. That summer it was thoroughly tested sailing between the Balearic Islands.

Different groups of friends accompanied us.

Ruta Sailing Verano 2015

Mediterranean Route

(Summer 2016 – 2348 nm)

During the summer of 2016 we sailed through Italian islands and coasts: Sardinia, Sicily, Naples, Pontínias, Eólias, Égadi, Ustica… it was an experience we shared with 17 friends who came in groups to the Acrobat.

Ruta Mediterránea Sailing Living Lab

Route «de la Sal» (Fall 2016 – 280 nm)

We participated as a support boat in the organization of Ruta de la Sal del año 2016.

The boat’s engine gave us problems during this journey and we decided to install a new engine (Volvo Penta D1-30) in June 2016. With the new engine installed, we set out on a route through the Western Mediterranean.

South Spain Route (Winter 2017 – 2.080 nm)

During the winter of 2017 we sailed from Valencia to the Andalusian coasts, to Cádiz. We intended to go to the Canary Islands but we decided to stay a few more months in the peninsula to carry out activities related to the project

After winter and spring arrived, we sailed to the East, carrying out activities in: CASEM University of Cádiz, El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), Sotogrande (Cádiz), Málaga, Almería and Cartagena.

Sailing Sur 2017

Then we sailed to Melilla. We carried out a demonstration of the ROVs from our technological partners Nido Robotics for the Guardia Civil.

From Melilla we returned to Cartagena, to continue organizing activities and from there we returned to Cádiz, making stops along the way and also carrying out activities in Algeciras, as a collaboration with Diverciencia Algeciras, an organization centered in scientific dissemination.

We also invited supporters who came to listen to the lectura we gave at a scientific congress in this city and sailed across the bay of Algeciras.

Sailing 2080 millas nauticas

The route through southern Spain was also fluvial we sailed Mediterranean and Atlantic seas but also went up the Guadalquivir to Seville and the Guadiana to Pomarao (Portugal).
In Seville we gave another lecture and organized an open day at
 Sevilla’s Yacht Club.

In Seville we enlisted a new crew member: Paula Gonzalvo to meet her and studying a possible collaboration between our project and hers: Allende los Mares.

Canary Islands Route

(2018/2019 – +4.000 nm)

During the years 2018 and 2019 we traveled through the 8 islands of the archipelago and carried out activities in 7 of them, sailing more than 4,000 nautical miles.

We also collaborated with various projects such as:

Ruta Stella Oceani

(January 2018 – 640 nm)

The collaboration between Allende los Mares and payed off and materialized in the Stella Oceani Project.

The collaboration between Allende los Mares and payed off and materialized in the Stella Oceani Project.

Initially it was called CAP (Astronomical Position Competition) and later we changed the name to Stella Oceani (Ocean Stars)

The proyect consists of a competition of several ships trying to get the best position using the sextant, the stopwatch and the almanac only.

It is not the fastest ship that wins, but the most accurate in calculating its position. That makes navigation smooth, without forcing the boats or tiring the crew.

The Acrobat was the fleet control boat, taking care of the communication between the boats, ensuring their safety and receiving their calculated positions every day to calculate the score.

We had various collaborators, such as the Real Liga NAval Española, that provided the trophy for the winner; Copernicus Doblon.

Ruta Stella Oceani

(Octuber 2019 – 750 nm)

The CAP regatta with Allende los Mares returned in 2019. In this second edition we renamed it «Stella Oceani».

Roberto Santos embarked on the Acrobat as a navigator and with his help que cold win this second edition. Thank you very much, Roberto.

Roberto is a Merchant Navy captain and he is dedicated to nautical training at his school: “Arriluze”, in Getxo (Bizkaia).
